YSU Expands to Steubenville: New Associate Degrees & Certificates Starting Fall 2026 (2026)

YSU Unveils New Steubenville Campus Programs: A Step Towards Enhanced Education and Workforce Development

YSU has recently announced its plans to offer a range of associate degree and certificate programs at the former Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) site in Steubenville, Ohio. This move marks a significant milestone in the university's commitment to expanding access to higher education and fostering workforce opportunities in the Upper Ohio Valley.

The announcement comes as EGCC prepares to dissolve and cease operations by the end of October 2024, with the school already discontinuing all activities by the end of September 2025. YSU's strategic expansion aims to address the evolving needs of the community and the regional workforce.

The programs offered in Steubenville are carefully designed to align with regional workforce demands, providing both academic and career pathways. The university will offer the following associate degree programs this fall:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice
  • Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Associate Pre-Kindergarten
  • Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science in Machining
  • Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ADN)
  • Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology
  • Associate of Applied Science in Social Work
  • Associate of Applied Science in Welding
  • Associate of Arts in Business Administration
  • Associate of Arts in CLASS
  • Associate of Arts in Teacher Education

Additionally, the following certificate programs will be available:

  • Certificate in Police Academy
  • Certificate in Welding
  • Certificate in Machining
  • Certificate in Medical Assisting

University leaders emphasize that this initial program launch is just the beginning of a phased, strategic expansion. The university will continue to adapt and evolve its offerings in response to community and workforce priorities, ensuring a dynamic and responsive educational environment.

President Johnson highlights the university's commitment to hiring new professors and integrating familiar faces from Youngstown. The campus will offer a blend of in-person teaching and online courses, providing flexibility and accessibility to students.

Registration for the Steubenville programs will commence in April, and prospective students can apply to become YSU students now through the university's website. This expansion is a testament to YSU's dedication to enhancing education and workforce development in the region.
