He emphasized the urgent need for Congress to convene on Monday to vote on his proposed measure, stating, "Every member of Congress should go on record this weekend on how they will vote."
This development stands in stark contrast to the President's repeated assurances that he would not initiate new foreign wars. During his campaign, he famously pledged, "I’m not going to start a war, I’m going to stop wars."
Furthermore, in the 13 months since his return to office, he has frequently alluded to his desire for a Nobel Peace Prize and, during his State of the Union address, credited himself with ending "eight wars" globally. He has also been actively attempting to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia, though without success.
And this is the part most people miss: The criticism has extended beyond these initial lawmakers. Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona sharply criticized the President's warning about potential U.S. troop casualties. "We can support the democracy movement and the Iranian people without sending our troops to die," he posted on X in a scathing critique.
Similarly, Democratic Senator Andy Kim of New Jersey stated, "Americans don’t want to go to war with Iran." Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky also voiced his opposition to Trump's actions.
