Bold headline: A widespread power outage hits over 1,000 homes, highlighting a fragile grid.
A fault on high-voltage lines left more than a thousand homes south of Taunton in darkness this morning, February 15. The outage was first reported just before 7am and affected parts of the TA3 postcode area. At one point, 1,117 properties were disconnected from the power supply.
The National Grid reported that power was quickly restored to many affected properties. A message on the grid’s website stated: “We were alerted at 6:56am this morning and our engineers are working to get your electricity back on as quickly as possible. We’re sorry for the disruption.”
By 7:30am, around 83 properties remained without power, though crews continued working to restore service.
How this could affect you: outages like this remind us how dependent modern life is on a stable electricity network. When a fault occurs, restoration times can vary as engineers diagnose the issue and bring circuits back online safely.
